Singer, rapper and writer Dessa has made a career of bucking genres and defying expectations. Her résumé as a musician includes performances at Lollapalooza and Glastonbury, co-compositions for a 100-voice choir and performances with the Minnesota Orchestra that include a live recording slated for release in fall of 2019. Her newest full-length record, Chime, charted on the Billboard Top 200 and debuted at No. 9 on the Alternative charts. Her track “Congratulations” from the multiplatinum album The Hamilton Mixtape has notched more than 10 million streams. As a writer, she’s been featured in The New York Times and broadcast by Minnesota Public Radio, and has published a hardcover collection of essays that NPR and Amazon recognized as a best book of 2018. On the stage and on the page, her style is defined by ferocity, wit, tenderness and candor.
